Independent Rx Consulting are advisers to the independent pharmacy owners and entrepreneurs who need peer counseling to successfully navigate the complexities of buying and starting pharmacies. Led by a team of current independent pharmacy owners with a combined 17 pharmacies (retail, compounding and long-term care) and 100+ years in the business, we have created an organization committed to coaching others in what we wish we’d known when we began our businesses. Our goal: strengthen and transform the community pharmacy industry one independent pharmacy entrepreneur at a time.
Owen is 2nd generation (his father Mark BonDurant (Independent Rx Chief Consultant) is Tim Clark's partner) in the pharmacy business and has worked in independent pharmacies since before he can remember. His pharmacy experience includes almost every role a small pharmacy has to offer from cleaning the bathrooms, working as a pharmacy technician, to starting, marketing, and running a durable medical equipment company. Owen graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a degree in marketing and a minor in management information systems (MIS). After graduating he briefly worked for Western and Southern Financial Group before deciding he wanted to return to the pharmacy industry where he started a medical equipment business. He subsequently moved to Chicago and worked as the Midwest sales team manager for a software company targeting major retail organizations. The itch to come back to the pharmacy industry returned, as it truly is all he knows, and Independent Rx Consulting was born. Now he leads our business. Outside of work, Owen is married with 2 children.
Timothy R. Clark R.Ph: Tim graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Pharmacy. Shortly after graduation he began working at the family business making him a 3rd generation pharmacist and later a pharmacy owner. In 1998 he took over the family business, Clark’s Pharmacy, which at the time was a 3 store chain, as CEO and President. Upon taking over he grew the business, through acquisition and start-ups, to 10 retail sites. Then he strategically sold 7 of the stores and rebuilt the business to 15 retail locations plus long-term care and compounding pharmacies, through acquisition and opening stores from scratch. Tim is also a former Regional Board Member for Sky Bank and a former National Advisory Board Member for McKesson. Outside of being an entrepreneur, Tim is married with 8 children. He also contributes time to the community through being a Foundation Board member at Dayton Children’s Hospital and an adjunct faculty member at the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy.
Mark graduated from Ohio Northern University School of Pharmacy and is celebrating his 40th year in the pharmacy profession. In his 38 years with Clark's Rx in Dayton, Ohio he has experienced many roles including staff pharmacist, store manager, supervisor, and chief operating officer. For the last 18 years he has been a partner in the business and has overseen operations while growing from three to sixteen stores and managing over 200 employees. He presently is the Chief Consultant specializing in operational issues and due diligence. Mark is an adjunct professor of pharmacy management at The University of Cincinnati and is an industry speaker for the Ohio Pharmacist of pharmacy management at The University of Cincinnati. He routinely is a presenter at the Ohio Pharmacists Association Convention, RBC, NCPA Convention, and the Independent Rx Boot Camp, among others.
Heidi graduated with a business degree from Cedarville University. Heidi has worked for Clark’s Rx for the past 9 years holding various positions from accounting, to project management, to outside consultant. She has been involved in opening stores, integrating acquired stores, and selling existing stores. Her current role with Independent Rx Consulting is to leverage her extensive experience with Clark’s stores to help others successfully achieve their goals of owning and operating a successful independent pharmacy. Heidi has also raised two handsome boys, a crazy jack russell, and has been happily married since graduating from college. She loves her work and she really enjoys the relationships she develops as she works so closely with each of her new owners.
Kateri graduated with an Accounting Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She started her career in the banking industry prior to joining the Clark’s Rx team. She has over 9 years of experience working with independent pharmacies. During Clark’s Rx’s period of store acquisition and divestiture, she was instrumental in applying the unique aspects of accounting for these transactions. She continues to maintain the responsibility of performing the monthly financial accounting for all of Clark’s Rx’s operations. She now applies this accounting knowledge and insights to the Independent Rx Consulting clients. In her current role with Independent Rx Consulting, she manages each client’s financial accounting and closing processes in addition to assisting our clients throughout the country with special projects. Kateri is married and has 3 beautiful children and enjoys reading and a glass of wine in her free time.
Michelle graduated with an Accounting Degree from Wright State University and began her career with the public accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand. She transitioned to corporate accounting and during that time expanded her expertise to the many facets of human resources, payroll management and benefits administration. For the past 5 years, Michelle has managed the many aspects of Human Resources for Clark's Rx pharmacies and now brings this independent pharmacy expertise to the clients of Independent Rx Consulting. She always demonstrates a willingness to go the extra mile for her clients to ensure a successful launch while providing consultative guidance for her ongoing clients. Michelle is a certified Professional of Human Resources (PHR). Michelle is married with three children and enjoys her two dogs, music, and traveling.
Todd graduated with an Accounting Degree from The Ohio State University and obtained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification as he began his career with the public accounting firm Deloitte & Touche. Valuable accounting, finance and general business process experience was obtained while servicing many different clients during this time. He then moved to a corporate position with the Reynolds & Reynolds company in Dayton, OH. In this role, he served in a variety of corporate finance and accounting related positions learning many facets of the business - including Financial Reporting/Consolidations, Commissions, General Accounting, Contract Management, and Financial Planning & Analysis. With these business insights and strong technical skills, Todd transitioned to the information Technology group. Over the years in this role Todd has planned, defined, built, tested and supported many different systems and related processes. With more than 27 years of broad business and technical experience he is now serving the Independent Rx Consulting clients by delivering insightful data services and dashboards to monitor and proactively manage the operations of their pharmacy businesses. Additionally, he works to deliver best practices in pharmacy operations to ensure accurate data and information is managed within the pharmacy systems. Todd is married with three children, enjoys good coffee, live concerts, and traveling for photography.
