Independent Rx Consulting are advisers to the independent pharmacy owners and entrepreneurs who need peer counseling and accounting to successfully navigate the complexities of buying, starting and operating pharmacies. Led by a team of current independent pharmacy owners who have owned over a combined 30 pharmacies (retail, compounding and long-term care) and 100+ years in the business, we have created an organization committed to coaching others in what we wish we’d known when we began our businesses.

Owen BonDurant | Partner

Bio

Experience

Owen is 2nd generation (his father Mark BonDurant, IRx Chief Consultant and Partner) in the pharmacy business and has worked in independent pharmacies all his life. His pharmacy experience includes almost every role an independent pharmacy has to offer from cleaning bathrooms, working as a pharmacy technician to starting, marketing and running a durable equipment company and of course being the founder of Independent Rx Consulting.

Owen graduated from Miami University of Ohio and has a degree in marketing and a minor in management information systems (MIS). Over the past 18 years he has started two companies, sold enterprise software to major retail organizations and helped start or acquire over 100 pharmacies.

Role

Owen is a partner and founder of Independent Rx Consulting. He is responsible for all aspects of helping clients start or acquire pharmacies.

Interests

Outside of work Owen enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two children. He also plays golf when he can and strives to travel anywhere he and his family can as often as they can.

Tim Clark R.Ph | Partner

Bio

Experience

Tim graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Pharmacy. Shortly after graduation he began working at the family business making him a 3rd generation pharmacist and later a pharmacy owner. In 1998 he took over the family business, Clark’s Pharmacy, which at the time was a 3 store chain, as CEO and President. Upon taking over he grew the business, through acquisition and start-ups, to 10 retail sites. Then he strategically sold 7 of the stores and rebuilt the business to 15 retail locations plus long-term care and compounding pharmacies, through acquisition and opening stores from scratch.

Tim is also a former Regional Board Member for Sky Bank and a former National Advisory Board Member for McKesson. He also contributes time to the community through being a Foundation Board member at Dayton Children’s Hospital and an adjunct faculty member at the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy.

Role

Tim is a partner and is responsible for the pharmacy transition for buyers and sellers of pharmacies. 

Interests

Tim is busy raising his 8 children that live across the country.  He enjoys traveling, playing golf,  hiking, and a good meal.

Rich Danhof, CPA | Partner

Bio

Experience

Rich began his career in 1989 with the then big eight accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand. He earned his CPA license and focused on the audit side but also had tax responsibilities for his client base. After five years and a broad range of experiences and clients, Rich made the move to big corporate. NCR Corporation was the new landing spot and there began a ten year succession of jobs from reporting and planning roles to CFO of an acquired software company to several years in the mergers and acquisitions group. As fulfilling as the experiences were at NCR, there was a desire to have ownership in a business. A partnership in a personal financial planning business became the next stop, and provided individual client based experiences that led to his current position as CFO and partner in Clark’s Pharmacy and Independent Rx Consulting. The last ten years have been spent operating and providing finance and accounting expertise to pharmacies. Clark’s Rx has operated up to 16 stores at a time and has opened, bought and sold over 25 pharmacies. In addition, those experiences are now being used to help entrepreneurs start, acquire and operate their own pharmacies.

Role

Involved in overseeing the overall direction and management of the company. Directly responsible for the financial, accounting, and tax operations of the business.

Interests

Outside of work I am always looking for opportunities to hop on my bikes. I love to mountain bike but also spend a fair amount of time riding on the road as well. Heidi and I enjoy travel, coffee shops, and good food with friends. We have two grown boys that are a joy and a lot easier now that they are on their own.

Mark Nelson | Partner

Bio

Experience

After Graduating from Louisiana State University in Shreveport in 2009, Mark began his
professional career at PioneerRx, at that time a startup pharmacy software company.
As PioneerRx’s customer base grew and expanded across the country, Mark developed
a passion for Independent Pharmacy and its community, quickly rising to the position of
Vice President of Sales. Whether helping an independent pharmacist open their first
pharmacy or assisting them to implement new technologies and best practices, Mark
enjoys taking complex situations and breaking them down into easily achievable goals.
As a Partner and Vice President of Business Development at Independent Rx, Mark is
excited to continue working with the customers and community he loves.

Role

Mark’s role at Independent Rx is to help future and current Independent Rx customers
succeed. Whether implementing new technologies or expanding the services your
pharmacy offers, Mark uses his years of experience to help pharmacies develop unique,
competitive advantages to thrive in today’s ever-evolving market.

Interests

Mark is an avid mountain biker and ardent surfer who lives in Dallas, TX. He is a former Division 1 mountain bike competitor but loves spending time on both his road and mountain bike. Mark enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors. He and his wife have two sons, with baby number three on the way.

Heidi Danhof | Partner

Bio

Experience

Heidi graduated with a business degree from Cedarville University. Heidi has worked for Clark’s Rx for the past 9 years holding various positions from accounting, to project management, to outside consultant. She has been involved in opening stores, integrating acquired stores, and selling existing stores. Her current role with Independent Rx Consulting is to leverage her extensive experience with Clark’s stores to help others successfully achieve their goals of owning and operating a successful independent pharmacy. She loves her work and she really enjoys the relationships she develops as she works so closely with each of her new owners.

Role

Heidi’s role is working with the clients that are starting or buying a pharmacy. Heidi has weekly calls with our clients and takes them through our step-by-step checklist to ensure everything is complete when it is time to open their new store.

Interests

Heidi has raised two handsome boys, a crazy jack russell, and has been happily married since graduating from college. She loves to spend time with family, traveling and finding independent coffee shops wherever she goes.

Mark BonDurant R.Ph | Chief Consultant

Bio

Experience

Mark is a graduate of Ohio Northern College of Pharmacy and is celebrating his 42nd year as a pharmacist. In his thirty nine years with Clark’s Pharmacy in Dayton, Ohio he has experienced many roles including staff pharmacist, manager, supervisor, and chief operating officer not to mention the occasional need to fill in as a technician or delivery driver. For the last twenty years he has been a partner in the business and has overseen operations while growing from three to sixteen stores and managing over two hundred employees. As COO he was involved in over forty transactions of starting, buying, or selling a store and during his tenure as chief consultant, Independent Rx Consulting has conducted over one hundred more.

Role

Mark’s role as chief consultant touches many aspects of Independent Rx consulting including buying, selling, or starting a pharmacy, operational issues and strategy, effective communications, and data analysis. He teaches several segments of the Pharmacy Boot Camp (both live and virtual) and represents Independent Rx consulting as a speaker for pharmacy conventions and as adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati.

Interests

Mark has been a performing musician since college and has written over fifty songs. In 2019, he was a co-writer on a song that reached top ten on the Bluegrass charts and was performed several times on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. He also enjoys golf and last year attended all four major championships. His other passions are traveling, good food, and lecturing on the business of pharmacy. Mark’s wife is a successful artist whose work has been featured in several national shows. He and Michele are proud parents of three children and grandparents of two.

Ashley Collins | Account Manager

Experience

Ashley has been a technician with our company for many years. She has developed a love and passion for Independent Pharmacies. Over the past 7 years, Ashley has acquired an extensive knowledge of workflow and multiple pharmacy operating systems. She specializes in inventory management and day to day operations. As our Account Manager, she loves working closely with our clients and growing lasting relationships.

Role

Ashley is your main contact for all general day-to-day questions. She will also keep a close watch on your dashboard for any changes to your pharmacy information, inventory, and top payers. She is well rounded with experience in multiple different pharmacy systems and has a great understanding of inventory management and general pharmacy operations.

Interests

 Ashley is married to her highschool sweetheart. Together they have 2 beautiful daughters with a third on the way. They love spending time as a family doing anything outdoors. She especially enjoys shooting pool, fishing, riding jet-skis/boating. She also enjoys coaching her daughters soccer teams and can be found camping every weekend.

Luke Danhof, CPA | Accounting

Bio

Experience

Luke graduated with an accounting and finance degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and obtained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification. He worked in public accounting in the tax department at Ernst & Young in Indianapolis for 2 years as a staff and 1 year as a senior. During this time he gained a wide range of experiences by assisting the domestic and international tax teams with Fortune 500 multinational audits, international entity restructuring projects, and tax return preparation. Luke now serves as an accounting consultant for Independent Rx.

Role

Luke is responsible for preparing monthly financial statements for clients and analyzing the financial health and well-being of their pharmacies.

Interests

Luke lives in Centerville, Ohio with his wife Haley and their little Shichon “Danger”. He enjoys mountain biking and going to coffee shops in his free time.

Danielle Hutchinson | Accounting

Bio

Experience

Danielle started her career in sales at a local, independent jewelry store where she spent over 12 years learning the ins and outs of retail. At the age of 29, she became a stay at home mom to two beautiful boys. After 7 years she started a new career path in May of 2019 at Independent Rx consulting as an accounting assistant.

Role

Danielle will drive the day-to-day account transactions and assist in payroll. She will also work with you on your bills, deposits, and accounting transactions.

Interests

Danielle lives in Miamisburg, Ohio with her loving husband, Tyler, her two children, Brady, age 11, and Caleb, age 10, and her three dogs, Oscar, Rocco, and Bernie. In her free time you can find her at the gym or doing anything outdoors.

Mike Kelley | Consultant

Bio

Experience

Mike is finishing his degree and will be graduating from Wright State University with a degree in
Accounting. He has been working for Clark’s Rx for 13 years where he started as a pharmacy tech and
developed into daily operations management for our pharmacies in Missouri.

Role

Mike’s current roles with Independent Rx Consulting includes searching for pharmacy acquisition candidates and monitoring client accounts receivables via the reconciliation process.

Interests

Mike grew up playing hockey. He still loves to play whenever he gets the chance and enjoys watching the NHL.

Mike enjoys traveling and has visited 10 countries and counting!

Kateri Masiongale | Accounting

Bio

Experience

Kateri graduated with an Accounting Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She started her career in the banking industry prior to joining the Clark’s Rx team. She has over 9 years of experience working with independent pharmacies. During Clark’s Rx’s period of store acquisition and divestiture, she was instrumental in applying the unique aspects of accounting for these transactions. She continues to maintain the responsibility of performing the monthly financial accounting for all of Clark’s Rx’s operations. She now applies this accounting knowledge and insights to the Independent Rx Consulting clients.

Role

In her current role with Independent Rx Consulting, Kateri manages each client’s financial accounting and closing processes in addition to assisting our clients throughout the country with special projects.

Interests

Kateri is married and has 3 beautiful children and enjoys reading and a glass of wine in her free time.

Michelle Plunkett, PHR | HR & Payroll

Bio

Experience

Michelle graduated with an Accounting Degree from Wright State University and began her career with the public accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand. She transitioned to corporate accounting and during that time expanded her expertise to the many facets of human resources, payroll management and benefits administration. For the past 5 years, Michelle has managed the many aspects of Human Resources for Clark’s Rx pharmacies and now brings this independent pharmacy expertise to the clients of Independent Rx Consulting. She always demonstrates a willingness to go the extra mile for her clients to ensure a successful launch while providing consultative guidance for her ongoing clients. Michelle is a certified Professional of Human Resources (PHR).

Role

Michelle is responsible for managing the Human Resources and Payroll related services for our clients.

Interests

Michelle is married with three children, one grandchild, and enjoys her two dogs, music, and traveling.

Todd Plunkett | Software & Data

Bio

Experience

Todd graduated with an Accounting Degree from The Ohio State University and obtained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification as he began his career with the public accounting firm Deloitte & Touche. Valuable accounting, finance and general business process experience was obtained while servicing many different clients during this time.

He then moved to a corporate position with the Reynolds & Reynolds company in Dayton, OH. In this role, he served in a variety of corporate finance and accounting related positions learning many facets of the business – including Financial Reporting/Consolidations, Commissions, General Accounting, Contract Management, and Financial Planning & Analysis. With these business insights and strong technical skills, Todd transitioned to the information Technology group.

Over the years in this role Todd has planned, defined, built, tested and supported many different systems and related processes. With more than 27 years of broad business and technical experience he is now serving the Independent Rx Consulting clients by delivering insightful data services and dashboards to monitor and proactively manage the operations of their pharmacy businesses. Additionally, he works to deliver best practices in pharmacy operations to ensure accurate data and information is managed within the pharmacy systems.

Role

Todd is responsible for establishing your online Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Dashboard. This electronic dashboard relies heavily on the accurate item cost information in addition to incorporating other payroll and operational data. He will work with you to obtain access to your Pharmacy Management System for purposes of extracting data weekly for presentation in the dashboard. Your dashboard will be key to monitoring and understanding trends in your business performance.

Interests

Todd is married with three children (and his first grandchild), enjoys good coffee, live concerts, and traveling for photography.
