Calculating Cost to Dispense

How much does it cost you to dispense a prescription?

This is a very simple calculation, yet it is often overlooked. While we can look at fixed and variable costs, just knowing the overall cost is important and easy.

Look at the total expenses each month at the bottom of your profit and loss statement. Deduct any amount listed for depreciation or amortization. Divide this number by the total amount of Rx filled for the month. Viola! Here is your cost to dispense!
