Process Training

Manage to the Process not to the Person

Do you feel like you are a one man band? Do you want your staff to handle key processes, inventory management, ordering, med sync, but they just do not seem to be able to?

I am sure when you first set out to own a community pharmacy your plan was not to work 60-80 hours a week.

The good news is that you are not alone and there is a path to make it easier. The key is delegating to your technicians and other staff. But how do you do that? First do not try to do everything at once. Pick one process, probably the one that is easy to create and makes a large impact on the business. For example if you want to improve inventory management, take time create a process for managing it, document it then train one key employee to handle it, they then can then train one other employee. Once that is complete move to the next process, do the same until you are only handling the most important processes or the ones you most enjoy.

Doing this will allow you to mange people to the process, if they do the process correctly they have done their job, if not then they either need training or replaced with someone who can.

This concept is outlined perfectly in the E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber
